1,703 applications for Yearly grants

The application period for the Alfred Kordelin Foundation’s yearly grants ended on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 4:00 PM. A total of 1,703 applications were submitted by the deadline for science, arts, and public education, of which 463 were for science, 899 for the arts, and 341 for public education.

The number of applications for the yearly grants decreased by approximately 8% compared to the previous year (1,845). The most significant drop was in the arts, which received 899 applications this year (compared to 1,015 applications the previous year). In the arts, the highest number of grant applications were for literature and literary translation into finnifh (284), performing arts, including circus and dance (207), visual arts (162), and music (160).

In science, the most applications were directed toward social sciences (92), engineering sciences (44), and medical research on cardiovascular diseases (44). In public education, 169 applications were submitted for non-fiction books, 114 for promoting lifelong learning, and 58 for journalism.

The Alfred Kordelin Foundation awards grants to individuals and organizations for professional artistic and scientific work as well as public education. The foundation supports long-term work, mainly for periods of one year or six months. Grants are awarded for specific purposes.

EVALUATION AND DECISION-MAKING

The evaluation of grant applications in the pools begins in August, and we will inform applicants of the decisions at the beginning of November. The decisions on Yearly grants are made by the Board of the Alfred Kordelin Foundation.

In recent years, the Alfred Kordelin Foundation has distributed nearly four million euros annually in personal and project grants for science, arts, and public education.
