The August application round ended on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at 24:00 Finnish time. The number of applicants decreased by nine percent compared to last year. 3,059 grant applications were submitted this year and 3,346 last year.
Examined by sector, most grants were applied for visual arts (617), fiction (439) and music (346). Grants are awarded for finalization of Ph.D. work in various sciences and for beginning post doctoral researchers. The highest number of applicants was in medicine and health sciences (123), social sciences (80) and history (55). The most popular fields in both art and science were the same last year as well.
The evaluation of grant applications will start in August. The evaluators of the grant applications for science, literature, art and public education will meet in mid-October to make a proposal on the grants to be awarded to the Foundation’s Board, which will decide on the grants. We will inform applicants of the decisions in early November.
