Grants of Gust. Komppa Fund open for applications 15–31 January 2026

The Alfred Kordelin Foundation has eight dedicated funds that support Finnish science, art, sports, and cultural life in a versatile way. The Gust. Komppa Fund awards grants in the field of chemistry. From the beginning of 2026, the fund’s grants will be larger. The focus areas of the grants have also been clarified.

The Kordelin Foundation’s Gust. Komppa Fund promotes the field of chemistry by supporting its teaching and research, disseminating research results and applications, and enhancing both domestic and international collaboration in the field. The fund also awards grants for the popularization of chemistry to increase the field’s attractiveness. The goal is to deepen public understanding of chemistry and promote its application in society.

In the assessment of applications, emphasis is placed on the project having a clearly defined and concrete objective. In projects focusing on popularization, particular value is placed on the ability to make chemistry understandable and interesting to a wide audience.

The awarded amounts are now larger from the beginning of 2026, ranging from EUR 5,000 to 10,000, which allows for longer-term activities and projects. The grant is expense grant, which can cover, for example, project-related costs, such as travel costs, salaries and purchased services.

Finnish citizens or private individuals operating in Finland and registered collectives with a Finnish Business ID can apply for a grant. A working group may apply for a grant if the official applicant is an association. In this case, the association applies for a grant on behalf of the members of the working group.

The grants will be open for applications as usual in January, but the application period has been shifted to two weeks later than usual. The application period is 15–31 January 2026, closing at 16:00 Finnish time on 31 January. The grants can be applied for by using the online grant service.
