In January, applications are open for the Major Cultural Projects, as well as for the City Funds and the Gust. Komppa Fund grants. The application period opens in the grant system on Thursday, January 15, and closes on Saturday, January 31 at 4:00 p.m. Finnish time.

Grants of Gust. Komppa Fund open for applications 15–31 January 2026

The Gust. Komppa Fund awards grants in the field of chemistry. From the beginning of 2026, the fund’s grants will be larger than before, and the focus areas of the grants have been clarified.

Foundations establish a new company: Support for child and youth work and culture through impact first funding

The Solutions Fund Effekt (Ratkaisurahasto Effekt Oy) is a newly established company that supports and finances social projects with measurable, long-term results. Its initial focus is on children and youth, as well as cultural and educational initiatives.

Major Cultural Projects, Application period 15–31 January 2026

We are seeking Major Cultural Projects aiming for breakthroughs that support our goal of creating a more diverse, more skilled, and more international Finland. Major Cultural Projects are our key projects that tackle societal challenges through the perspectives of science, art, and public enlightenment.

3.5 million euros for the arts, science, and public education from the Alfred Kordelin Foundation

The Alfred Kordelin Foundation has been awarded 3.5 million euros to promote science, the arts, and public education, by awarding grants to 69 applicants. Personal grants awarded by the foundation are 45,000 euros each, and funding for projects ranges from 50,000 to 100,000 euros. The number of applications increased significantly compared to the previous year. 

Alfred Kordelin Prizes awarded to Tuomas Sandholm, Outi Tarkiainen and Timo Miettinen

The €50,000 Alfred Kordelin Prize is one of the most significant annual awards presented in Finland. The prizes are awarded for socially impactful and topical contributions to science, the arts and public education.

Philosopher Timo Miettinen Talks About Europe in a Way That Connects

Academy Research Fellow Timo Miettinen has been awarded the Alfred Kordelin Prize for his ability to bring philosophical thinking into public discussion. Miettinen, a researcher at the University of Helsinki, believes that understanding Europe is key to our future.
