The Alfred Kordelin Foundation’s grants for science, the arts and public education were open for applications from 15 to 31 August 2026. The Foundation supports long-term, goal-oriented work and seeks to address societal challenges. Grants awarded to individuals are € 45,000 for a 12–18 months of work. Grants awarded to collectives range from €50,000 to €100,000.

Applications by Field
Grants for the science
The Foundation’s science grants are intended for recently graduated PhDs. The purpose of the grants is to support newly graduated doctors on their career paths and enable them to advance in their careers. Of the applications submitted in the August call, 125 were directed toward humanities, 210 for natural sciences and technical sciences, and 217 toward the social sciences. The total number of applications increased significantly (by 65%) compared to the 2025 call for applications.
Grants for the arts
Grants for the Arts are awarded for the different artistic fields every other year. In 2026, grants were available for literature and the performing arts. Grants are awarded to both individuals and collectives. By the application deadline, 485 applications had been received in the field of literature and 489 in the field of performing arts. Of the literature applications, 94% were submitted by individual applicants. The corresponding figure for performing arts was 59%.
Public Education Grants
Public education grants are awarded to projects which strengthen the role of researched and expert-based knowledge. Grants are awarded to both individuals and collectives: in the August call, the foundation received 226 applications from individuals and 194 applications from collectives. The number of applications increased by 9.7% compared to the previous year.
Next Steps in the Process
The evaluation of grant applications begins in September. Final funding decisions are made by the Board of the Alfred Kordelin Foundation.
Decisions on grants will be sent to applicants in November – the information will be delivered to the email address provided by the applicant. The list of grant recipients will be published on the foundation’s website on Tuesday, November 17, 2026. In total, the Kordelin Foundation will award €3.5 million in the August application round.
