We are seeking groundbreaking large-scale cultural projects aimed at advancing our goal of creating a more diverse, skilled, and international Finland.
Major cultural projects must be ambitious and offer solutions to societal challenges through perspectives from the arts, science, or public education—or a combination thereof. When evaluating applications, we emphasize impact, interdisciplinarity, and long-term sustainability. Our objective is a vibrant and self-sustaining cultural field that enriches society in a sustainable way.
A major cultural project spans two years and requires a single application for the full two-year period. Funding for these projects ranges from €100,000 to €300,000. Projects that have been implemented successfully may apply for bridge funding to support continuity and enhance their impact. The foundation actively monitors the progress of funded projects.

APPLICATION PERIOD AND EVALUATION PROCESS
The application portal opens on January 1 and closes on January 31, 2025, at 4:00 PM Finnish time. Applications or attachments cannot be submitted by post or email. Applications for major cultural projects and bridge funding for existing projects must be submitted using their respective forms.
The evaluation process begins after the application period ends on January 31, 2025. Applications will be assessed in three categories: science, arts, and public education. Evaluation groups will include both the foundation’s trustees and external experts. The board will decide on funding recipients by the end of March 2025.
The evaluation process consists of four phases:
- Expert Assessment: Experts assess the projected impact of the projects in addressing various societal challenges and the breakthroughs they aim to achieve.
- Thematic Group Discussions: The thematic groups review the applications assigned to them and prepare their recommendations.
- Interviews: Six to nine projects are selected for interviews. The interviews involve both experts and foundation staff.
- Final Recommendations: The groups collaborate to make final funding recommendations to the foundation’s board of direction.
