Henna Nuutinen’s ceramic sculptures take their inspiration from nature: the seas, cliffs and dark forests. She is particularly interested in the layering of nature that has occurred over vast stretches of time. Her works recall algae or coral, and in the marine environment of Kultaranta they invite the viewer to reflect on the state of our waters and our ability to influence them.

Nuutinen cherishes the values of responsibility and biodiversity, which she also strives to emphasise in her art. For example, My Treasures Are Not Yours (2024) can be interpreted as a metaphor for the exploitation of natural resources. Golden pearl Mussel (2022), on the other hand, tells a story of a treasure that one may look at, but never possess. How can we grow as human beings and learn to live in harmony with nature?

Henna Nuutinen (b. 1990) is an artist and designer who lives and works in Lahti. She earned a degree in design at South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences and a Master of Arts degree from Aalto University.
