Tarja Malinen’s series Forever Young – Alone Together (2020–2022) deals with the loneliness and concern for the future experienced by young people. The feeling of belonging and connecting with others are vital to people of all ages, as is having hope for the future. The young people in the group of sculptures hold birds of peace as a sign of their hope for a better future.

Consisting of smaller figures, Malinen’s second series Together (2014–2026) takes a stand on children’s rights. Despite the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, children are still being abused all over the world. How can we guarantee a safe childhood for everyone?

Tarja Malinen (b. 1961) is a sculptor who lives and works in Joensuu. Malinen graduated with a degree in visual arts from the North Karelia University of Applied Sciences and earned her Master’s degree at LAB University of Applied Sciences.
