Kim Simonsson is known for his mystical sculptures of children and animals. His experimental techniques for creating surfaces on ceramics often give his works a completely new character. Most of his works displayed at Kultaranta are being shown for the first time. Simonsson’s work encourages the viewer to reflect on how we might develop a closer connection with nature and learn to live with respect for it.
The child figures cavorting in the garden wander through worlds of innocence, imagination and peculiarity, exploring their surroundings with curiosity.
The child figures cavorting in the garden wander through worlds of innocence, imagination and peculiarity, exploring their surroundings with curiosity. The Astronomer (2026) delves into the secrets of the universe, while the figure of a child in The Golden Snail (2026) focuses her attention on feeding a snail resting on her hand. Do adults lose their childlike curiosity about nature at some point in their lives? If so, can it be restored?
