In January, funding is available for Major Cultural Projects—two-year initiatives—as well as smaller grants from the foundation’s city and dedicated funds. Applications close on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 4:00 PM Finnish time.
Applications are submitted via the grants’ online service by registering as an applicant, using mobile or banking identification, and completing the electronic form. Decisions for the January application round will be made by the end of March 2025.
The foundation’s office provides support to applicants via email and phone, Monday to Friday, during the hours listed on the foundation’s website.
Funding for Ambitious, Breakthrough-Oriented Major Cultural Projects
We seek ambitious, breakthrough-oriented major cultural projects that support our goal of creating a more diverse, skilled, and international Finland. Applications are open to registered organizations.
Major cultural projects should aim to provide solutions to societal challenges through perspectives of art, science, or public education—or a combination of these. When evaluating applications, we emphasize impact, interdisciplinarity, and long-term sustainability. Our vision is a vibrant and self-sustaining cultural sector that enriches society in a sustainable way.
- Duration: Two years (applied for with a single application for the entire period)
- Funding Amount: €100,000–€300,000
- Bridge Funding: Available for ongoing projects to support continuity and impact.

City- and Target-Specific Fund Grants
Through its 17 city and dedicated funds, the Alfred Kordelin Foundation supports local arts and cultural activities. Each fund has its own specific local or thematic purpose, in addition to fulfilling the foundation’s overall mission. In January 2025, the foundation’s dedicated funds also include grants for research in the field of chemistry.

Doctorate? Head Abroad! – Post Doc Pool Spring Call
The Post Doc Pool Spring Call is open from January 1 to January 31, 2025. Grants from the Post Doc Pool are intended for researchers who have recently completed their doctoral degrees in Finland and wish to spend at least one academic year abroad. In exceptional cases, shorter stays of at least six months can also be funded, as well as supplementary funding for ongoing research periods abroad.
